Many thanks for your long letter and the money, which we got a day
too late to buy the Rum for the birthday child but we didn’t hesitate to charter a steamer where we could celebrate the day and there was whisky on board. About the disappearance number I must say that we felt even more shameful! when we heard you had begun to write to the consulate but on the other hand I must note that our last letter was sent off the 5th of March and not the 5th of February so that makes it one month less. I asked at the consulate if it was of any use to advertise about the big letter with the sample and he thought maybe that would be good but the sender of the letter should do that. So, you can now take action. the 600 statement for the dictionary (encyclopedia) can absolutely not get back, as far as I remember I think definitely there were some dictionaries among some of the books on the shelf in Kertemingade but if these are at this time by uncle we can in this instance may be charge 10 cents for every citizen who has his tax in order can get permission to read about Pensacola in the public library of Nicolai Church. About the decision of a place we must explain that we have a chart before here in Valencia you can also get showers and a stiff breeze on this side. Furthermore, thanks for the directions to stick the finger in the ground and smell. from now on we will take a flowerpot with dirt in along on the next sailing trip, fancy addition to Restmore’s nautical instruments, another observation until now are our only definite ways to stick the finger in the water and taste and if it tastes salty then you are in England, How is it with your long light summer nights, are they more mild now? We are not jealous at all, as proper people we use the night to sleep. Now enough about the weather and wind, now we go to the next point of the program, which is Hallo’s hat and which can be explained like this 2 eyes in between a little pointed nose placed under everything and the rest you can see on the enclosed picture, furthermore her parents find her wonderful. Here in Valencia we have as usual a lot of friendships and visiting. One of the most interesting is a German artist who has painted ”Restmore” on a piece of silk cloth which supposed to be a modest birthday present for the 1st of June and since I am the former years came too late with my congratulations. I will this year make up for it by coming a couple of days too early so congratulations, birthday child! as of the 1st of June is wishing by all 4 of us. Is the birthday this year going to be celebrated on you Pentecost trip?
The artist is painting a whole bunch of “Restmore” for us on handkerchiefs which we then will try to sell, if any of your friends would like to blow their noses in printed silk we can also get motif’s as flowers, seagulls, Spanish ladies etc. Price 3.5 Kronen postage included.
In spite of Rum and such things I can tell you that Carlsberg, black bread and salami is very rare and appreciated here, and there was no end to the joy when we today got a visit from a man who is in charge of the food on the ship S.S. Edith from Esbjerg who brought along 3 bottles of Carlsberg. It tastes much better than the drinks we get around here, he said. That was not flattering for my coffee and the Spanish wine. If you talk with Frederick then ask him to send the 2 flags and 2 K.A.S. we send the flag pole to you and then when we are nearby Gibraltar, we give you a holler to send them to us. There you get namely everything tax free. The flags should be YF Yacht Flags without stars, around 80 cm wide. Say hallo to Kai and tell him that you get such packages with stamps here. By coincidence our artist also collects stamps and he told us that there were some good packages for 10 peaetas. In contrast to the cheaper packages where there was not many in.
How much will Kai spend? If we by chance find some unusual stamps, we will put them in your letters for him. Are packages from the whole country especially interesting?
Now we finish for this time with loving greetings from yours truly L.A.P.E.
