Toulouse, France 11/29/1935
We thank many times for the last letters with money enclosed and we are very happy that we have you to arrange things for us in Copenhagen and we always know that when we write we always get an answer promptly. This time namely we were completely out of money coming 30 km from Toulouse where we scraped the last pennies together as payment for the bus ticket for Lars and me and let Anna and Peter sit alone and stare in the “Restmore” and drove off and sure enough the letter with the blessed paper pieces was there. To be sure to come back I put the crown jewels on, what I seldom did but in any case, if anything went wrong, I could have traded them but they were saved at any rate and Lars and I enjoyed the trip in the bus. I must say I am impressed about. your knowledge, Valdemar, about pulling of a Pram row boat and other boats, especially this with beating your wife and children. Have you studied Pramologie? in Russia? The other evening, we went again on ground. Although it wasn’t the wife’s fault we were so hard on, and had to work with block and tackle to inch from 6 o’clock till 12 midnight in order that we could slide off again but then we surely were also very proud that we had managed those difficulties alone.
When you, Marie, sit and look at us then look a little closer on Peter, then you can recognize Valdemar’s Beret which now almost grows permanently with Peter’s curls. A about light haired – yesterday the baker’s wife said “You have sore beautiful children” and I wanted proudly display Lars’ blond hair and pulled his hat off whereupon the baker’s wife said: “Oh, yes, but that doesn’t matter”. Veldemar has again one of the difficult words on us – lapidarisk – which caused Lars to be very upset that his expression was called something Laperi. – Explanation is required, otherwise he may consider the job as library assistant but the rules against pushing would absolutely have to be suspended since it is so much fun for him but may be it is not quite as much fun when the result is not as obvious as when it is Hallo who is the victim. You didn’t write anything about the idea with Nice, France. Is it too long a train ride? We are also inclined to give up staying in France through the winter since it is unbelievable expensive to live here in southern France so we will try to slip across the border to Spain as soon as possible, then we can examine the possibilities for connections with Copenhagen.
We have discovered that the more south you trave here in France the more expensive it gets to live and the less the newspapers pay. Imagine one liter of petroleum 75 Øre, 1 bread 1 Krone, and 22 Øre per franc. It is almost impossible to get along. Many thanks for the “Sejelsports° and “Vikingen”. There was a letter in Sette with papers with the application to sail here which we should use and that is why we got the whole mail sent here. Now it is very late, so we finish with many loving greetings from yours
adoring Lars, Hallo, Peter, Else.
