St. Thomas, February 9 1938
Dear Fellows!
First, we heartily thank you for your letter from January 19 which we got today and we have discovered that you’re so just like that throw our pictures in the furnace. Unfortunately, we have no extra prints like that of us in the dinghy tonight that you could treat in the same way but a copy will follow in the next letter. I’m sorry for Gustav, now I have to make due with letting Peter play the lover for me, well, when he earns good money maybe I can force myself to fall in love with him. Jokes aside we have of course gotten the sail from Frederik but I don’t understand that it’s worth 250 Crowns which he didn’t pay. Ask for a statement from him to see the amount. He might have sent it as a Christmas present for his beloved sister. It looks good otherwise and fits well. With the laundry made Miss Alma Garner on “MS Europa” o.k. which will arrive in Copenhagen 12 February, a package for you which we hope you get. Otherwise demand the next trip from her. The things will keep, only the Rum gets older. Here everything is fine, the Dollar is rolling, we have made a couple of trips with tourists, one was especially profitable. Peter sailed 2 men and a lady on a round trip to different islands, three
and a half days 50 Dollars. The children and I lived for about a week in a little house or villa in a little bay here. I was so tired of cleaning up there, running from galley to the veranda and from there to the bathroom where Musen was screaming that she was finished etc. The radio telegraph here Mr. Schmutz (a good thing he doesn’t live in Germany) a very friendly man has done us several favors among others charging the batteries. He would like to buy some Georg Jensens silver. There is a shop here Maison Danoise that sells it here but is very expensive. Would you ask for the price and send them to Mr. Schmutz? And in case he wants some to buy of course send it to him. I don’t know if you should send it c.o.d. He makes a good impression. He is hired from the government as a radio telegraph in the US marines. As far as I remember Marie had percentages by Georg Jensen, if we through her could get it maybe we could share these as a compensation for the trouble and the service. You can write in German to him if your English is not good enough. Musen is starting to be funny when she has eaten a lot, “Musen can’t any more, Musen is too heavy.” The other day she said: “Papa, you mustn’t look at me with your dirty legs.” We now take a couple of days going to St. John. There are probably some tourists that are eager to pay some dollars to sail along on the “Restmore” and from there we come back here and then go off to San Juan, Puerto Rico. The address is the Danish Consulate and now loving greetings
from Lars, Anna, Peter, Else.
