Dear Marie and Valdemar!
Please, excuse my remark about writer’s cramp, right after Peter went to the mail box with the letter he came back from the consul with your letter of 12 days and we thank you for it. I’m almost afraid that I have complained too strong. We have always a couple of nice Danes or Germans or at least Europeans but if it all has gotten Frederik in gear it is of course not bad either. The trip home wouldn’t work out even though there goes a Norwegian steamer from here to Copenhagen every month, but the 2 last ones have been fully occupied and the next one will be too late. It is not good for the baby or for us to come home in November weather and now it really looks very peculiar. How is it going to turn out? We get the cables direct when they come in the radio so we wiII see what happens in spring. If there is peace in Europe we’ll sail to Panama and try to get a steamer from there. We had thought we could get a cheap freighter. We have often heard about some that take people along but only for the food, furthermore, we have found a lawyer, an American, who would lend us the money. It was the plan that Peter should continue alone, of course he wouldn’t find a crew so easily and I don’t think he is eager to hire a sailor for 4 month and what do we do without Peter? “(Warum denn weinen wenn man auseinandergeht – wenn an der nachsten Ecke wieder schon ein andrer steht?”- Song: (Why cry when you go apart – when another corner is already at the next corner?) But you can’t make plans. It always turns out different.
I’ll finish with many loving greetings to you from your sincerely baby Per Alton, Muse, Lars, Peter and Else Dohm.
