Welcome mon©
Written for the Red Hook Series
31 square miles, sandy beaches, crystal clear
water and green mountains. White clouds that seem to hang in the
sky. St. Thomas is paradise and a place where i’ll die.
The pelicans and seagulls all echo their call. Come along mon
there’s room for us all.
As tourists all flock to the beaches for sure.
They are romanticized by island beauty galore. Sunbathing, skiing,
or snorkeling too, this island has a little something for you. It
seems like a ridiculous gesture for me to try and portray this
island you see. For where else can you find so much change and then
none.
For what people see was already begun. To
change like a chameleon from better to best. St. Thomas is my island
and i love her caress. Island people are a different lot. It matters
little the money you’ve got. Get to know them and soon they will be
you close friend for on this island friendship never ends.
Now there are some that are not quite as good.
So, like coconuts and bananas they need to be understood. Both a
different but fill you just the same. One gives you the runs and the
other is not to blame. So, take it all in my friends from abroad.
You are home now at least i have heard. You are tired I know but
your stay we will make, a much easier life after the bath you will
take.
The flights to get here may be difficult to
some, but the rewards of doing it will overcome. Any doubts that you
have about your choice for your stay. Take your shoes off my friend
and come stay for the day. Our heart shaped beaches some with sand
black as night. All have an enchantment that’s sure to delight. You
have your normal life back home.
Now is your chance to be free... You are an
islander maybe for a day, month or week. You may not be a native but
forget all that mess. You are welcome her mon you just need to
dress. So, kick off
your shoes and make yourself home. Put on your sandals and you are
free to roam. We have much to offer and places to see.
Pick an island you like you are never alone.
Dig you toes into our soft golden sand. The day is almost over the
sun is going down, but wait the night is just started so we must
head to town. It is a lively place with much to see and do. Remember
your time is limited but then it’s up to you.
Enjoy
yourself till next we meet again. Remember our island as if it were
your friend. For it’s the one you will come back to when you have
more time to spend.
