I have noticed over the years of my
short life that the glue holding society
together is families.
Many times, we have our differences
but in the long run we always seem to work
them out.
A good case in point would be the
Civil War. The people fighting on both sides
were originally families divided by their
conviction.
It is ironic that after the war was
over, they grew closer than ever…those that
were left.
In the present time the situation has
not changed, we are still made up of
families, we still feud over our differences
but when the chips are down, we are all
united in one purpose.
We have such a family, I may be the
youngest, I really don’t know but it also
doesn’t matter. What I have seen is a family
that was divided, and is now trying to
become whole again. One side may have been
first but the Man that made it happen is
also the man that binds us together. Now we
stand at a precifice and looking at the vast
expanse of our lives that lay both in front
and behind us. We take stock of where we
have been, where we are and where we are
going. Reaching out to each other is the 1st step
in making us a united family.
Only by doing so will we heal whatever
wounds were inflicted over our years apart
and the dysfunctional way in which we became
distant from each other. We should be happy
that we have and have had some very
distinguished individuals in our family
(notice I didn’t say families) because we
are ONE.
We should take the best each of us has
to offer and strive to make this family unit
stronger. I don’t feel that all of us have
attempted to make a concerted effort to
bring this to fruition. Carol and Hans have
made a start which I feel privileged to be a
part of and hope more of our family will
join in with an effort that will surely
benefit all.
We have so much to be thankful for yet
we are not. We hold resentments of one kind
or another and some can’t quite get past the
memories of the past. We have had wonderful
parents if we look at the total picture.
They loved us unconditionally, they shielded
us from harm and played a vital role each
separately but acting as one. They have left
us a legacy that each of us must strive to
build on. I look forward to joining with my
brothers and sisters, nieces, aunts, uncles,
and the list goes one, many I have never met
or known, and become more than we have been
and better than we now are. My vision for
our family is one of unity, trust, and above
all love for one another.
