As I walked deeper and deeper into the woods
the trees began to come alive. The big oak trees looked like aliens
from another world, the ferns looked like little fairies as they
danced in the wind. The path I was on was wet from a recent rain and
being damp was slippery. As I maneuvered my way up the path to a
clearing, I began to see the dim light as the evening sun had gone
down. I hastened my pace and there on the edge of the hill I saw the
final rays go down beyond the distant sea.
I thought to myself how beautiful the sunset is
yet hardly anyone ever stops and looks at it. If it were gone
tomorrow no one would even miss it I thought.
Waiting in the silence I could hear the different night animals as
they busily went about their searches for food and who knows maybe
even social gatherings. The night was eerie but the stars shown
above like beacons in a distant land. I turned on my flash light and
I started back towards my home which by now was completely dark.
In my haste to see the setting sun I did not
leave any lights on. Not to worry, this place was safe and well
beyond the violence of the city. As I drew nearer, I noticed that
the door was open. I thought did I forget to lock the door before I
left? The answer came back a resounding NO. I turned off the flash
light and made my way steadily towards the cabin. My heart was
pounding from the excitement and danger. I managed to get next to
the window and peered in.
I saw a rather tall man, in ragged clothes
searching the cabinets for food. He did not see me and I thought to
myself, if I wait, he will leave. Little did I know this intruder
had other plans. As the minutes turned to hours the intruder having
eaten his fill fell asleep on my bed. Never
having to deal with a situation like this before I decided it would
be best to confront him in the light of day.
As I huddled near the chimney the cold wind
began to blow. I was worried that some wild animal might attack me
but soon I was fast asleep from weariness and fatigue. As the
morning sun rose in the distance I remembered about the intruder. I
got myself together and decided to confront him, As I opened the
door I was struck by what I saw…..
