When the
Night sleeps ©
By Joseph P. Gimenez
2010 for the Red Hook Series
Its dusk and the sun has
retired for the day
Darkness covers the land and
the moon is kept at bay.
Look up and see around the
sky are the twinkling stars
All aligned like the planets
Earth, Jupiter and Mars
Keeping silent in the still
of the night
Except for the stars there
is darkness, not a single light
The night is now tired and
has gone to bed it seems
But what does the night
dream when it dreams?
The night takes comfort in
knowing that soon
That light will again be
gently filling her room
The light that will keep her
safe and secure
Until she blankets the earth
with darkness once more.
