Christmas Day ©

Oh say can you see, by the
bright Christmas Lights?…
It’s only a few days
before Christmas day, oh what a delight
The children will all be
excited as can be, their faces bright with glee,
To see what Santa has left
for them under the green Christmas tree
It matters not how old you
really are
The distance from you to
your childhood isn’t that far
We all like new things
that sparkle and shine
A new car or new coat or
shoes would be simply divine
As the Christmas day
arrives, and papers fill the air
Boxes are waiting to be
opened as wrappings disappear
While still in their
jammies, coffee in hand, and half asleep
The parents get ready for
the long night ahead, and the vigil they will keep.
Yes there is a Santa Claus
our parents told us so
He comes on a sled pulled
by 8 reindeer don’t you know?
His red outfit and white
beard are well known
By people with imagination
that have somehow grown.
So carefully they ensure
that this magic is never lost
Its secured within their
hearts and protected at all costs.
For you see its not the
cold that takes our dreams away
But growing up, unlike
innocent children, we forget how to play.
But the youngsters their
eyes as wide as saucers beam
They have awoken from what
may have seemed and endless dream
And as they rush down the
stairs, and with anticipation stare
At all the toys and gifts
that Santa left for them there.
Little has changed in
these thousands of years
People brought presents
and to the infant they gave
The best of what they had
for he deserved no less
His birth was our present
and I must confess
Without his birth none of
this would go on
It’s like someone who has
words without a song
Remember that on that
special day a plan was made
While a baby named Jesus
in a stable laid..
