Gone from sight are
those we once knew
They left us a
heritage that we must pursue
Their words have faded
but their memories remain
They gave us the
legends, the mystery, the fame.
We try to trace
their footsteps back through time
But the distance and
writings are often sublime
The evidence of their
lives are often hidden from view
Only their stories are
still told by a few
We keep them alive
with what little we know
We seek out more
information on which path to go
We find ourselves
wondering about our relative’s past
We hope that our
search will lead to good news at last
Who were our
relatives we ask one and all
The answer is the
same, few can recall
They were good people
we have reached this clue
But who were they
really? We wish we knew.
While we seek and
we ponder these ancestors long gone
We too will be
memories and another generation will come along
So hopefully you will
find what you seek most of all
To know about our
ancestors that your relatives can recall.
As you in turn pass
from this life to the next
Questions about your
life will be part of this text
No more are you the
seeker but are sought now instead
As the chain of
ancestry continues now that you’re dead.
